Barnes & Noble Selects Lauren Groff’s Matrix as September 2021 National Book Club Selection

Readers are Invited to a Free Virtual Book Club Event Featuring Lauren Groff on Tuesday, October 12

New York, NY –September 7, 2021 – Barnes & Noble, Inc., with bookstores in every state across the United States, today announced Matrix by Lauren Groff as the September 2021 selection for the Barnes & Noble Book Club, a monthly book club designed for readers across the country to discuss the most compelling books.

Barnes & Noble is selling a special, exclusive Book Club edition of Matrix as well as hosting a free LIVE virtual event with Lauren Groff about the book on Tuesday, October 12, at 3pm Eastern Time. Registration via Eventbrite is required. Customers can purchase the exclusive edition, in-stores or online at BN.com.

“Bestselling author Lauren Groff is back with an unforgettable foray into feminism and fate,” said Shannon DeVito, Director of Books, Barnes & Noble. “Her new novel, set with a deft hand in twelfth-century France, weaves a tale of passion and faith, creativity and power.  It draws readers in from the first chapter with a protagonist our Book Club readers will find both irresistible and shockingly relatable.”

Barnes & Noble invites customers to join the B&N Book Club Facebook Group to share their views of the book as well as attend the virtual Book Club event next month to hear from Lauren Groff.

“Barnes & Noble has always been an important part of my development as a reader and writer. Some of my favorite slow, quiet afternoons have been when I have spent hours wandering a store, pulling this or that book out, submerging myself in another human life or mind, always feeling elated when I'd at last return home with an armload of books,” said Lauren Groff.  “I am over the moon that my novel Matrix has been selected for the Barnes & Noble Book Club, and that readers might feel their own slow submergence in the twelfth-century life of my fierce abbess Marie. It is an honor and a delight to join the Barnes & Noble book club community; I thank you all very much.”

The virtual event with Lauren Groff on October 12 will be hosted on Zoom. Registration via Eventbrite is required. Before the virtual event, customers can also join in discussion at their convenience on the new B&N Book Club Facebook group and on social media via the hashtag #BNBookClub.

Previous Barnes & Noble Book Club selections have included: The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green, The Last Romantics by Tara Conklin, The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See, Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly, Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner, The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead, Inland by Téa Obreht, The Testaments by Margaret Atwood, Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano, The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, and Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam.
