FORT WAYNE – (November 1, 2021) – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of a new bookstore in the Orchard Crossing Shopping Center on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. The new Barnes & Noble marks a striking change in the bookseller’s appearance.  The thoughtful design of the new store is light and airy, with large book rooms and beautiful displays of stationery, puzzles, board games and toys.

The new store will officially open to the public with a ribbon cutting by local mystery author Anna Lee Huber at 10:00am. Ms. Huber is the bestselling author of the Lady Darby Mysteries and the Verity Kent Mysteries.

This new bookstore replaces the Barnes & Noble in Jefferson Pointe which closed on August 22. Store Manager, Jillian Mitchell, and her experienced team of booksellers, most of whom are returning to their home store after temporarily being placed at neighboring Barnes & Noble locations during the move, have been busy planning a wonderful selection of books.

“Barnes & Noble is thrilled to reopen our store here in Fort Wayne. We have two new stores opening today and have opened eight this year with many more planned in 2022,” says James Daunt, who became the new CEO at Barnes & Noble in September 2019. “Store manager, Jillian Mitchell, and her team have curated a fantastic selection for the book lovers of Fort Wayne. We are all excited to turn the page on this new chapter of bookselling.”

Barnes & Noble empowers each individual bookselling team to curate their bookstore in a way best that will best appeal to their local clientele.  It is a completely new approach to bookselling at Barnes & Noble, bringing a respect for local knowledge that is at the heart of the best bookstores. This philosophy reflects the experience long-time bookseller, James Daunt, applies to his own independent bookstore that he opened in 1990. The Orchard Crossing team has been hard at work developing their bookstore and the result is a selection of books and merchandise that will delight the residents of the area. There are large sections devoted to Mystery &Thrillers, Religion books, Young Adult titles and Manga, which continues to grow in popularity. New fiction and non-fiction hardcovers, the core strengths of Barnes & Noble, will also be front-and-center at the store.

“We are so excited to be here in our new store here in Orchard Crossing. While this new location is smaller, it’s cultivated to the books our community wants and needs,” said Store Manager, Jillian Mitchell. “We look forward to welcoming our customers, old and new, and sharing our love of books with them. I am confident our customers will love this new location.”

In addition to the grand opening with Anna Lee Huber, the store has plans for additional book signings this year and is planning for bigger events such as Storytimes and Book Readings in 2022.
