Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Sandy

Press Release

Author Tricia Levenseller to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 10AM on Wednesday May 29, 2024

New York, NY – May 22, 2024– Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new Sandy bookstore on Wednesday, May 29th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in The Commons at Southtowne (10433 S. State St., Sandy, UT 84070) in the space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, next to Ulta, DSW and Nordstrom Rack.

The bookstore will officially open to the public at 10AM MDT on Wednesday the 29th, with author Tricia Levenseller cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her books. The new location showcases the highly lauded bookstore design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, housing all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller. The bookstore will also house an updated B&N Café.

“Barnes & Noble has been committed to making a return to Sandy after a short departure last year when our lease ended in the Shops at South Town,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “We’ve seen an outpouring of enthusiastic demand from readers, through social media and online petitions, to retain our brick-and-mortar presence in this community. We are delighted to now welcome them back into this stunning new Barnes & Noble, complete with a customer-favorite B&N Café.”

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing exceptionally strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.

The Sandy location is one of six new Barnes & Noble bookstores to open in May, and one of two opening on the Wednesday the 29th along with a new bookstore on Diversey Parkway in Chicago, IL. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing a community staple back to Sandy,” said Store Manager Jami Anderson, B&N bookseller of 20 years. “I’m most looking forward to seeing our longtime customers, and welcoming new ones, and seeing the excitement of both when they walk into their new Sandy Barnes & Noble. Our team couldn’t be more eager to welcome readers to this newly renovated space just a short distance from our old location.”
