Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Rochester Hills

Press Release

Author Lauren Roberts to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 10AM on Wednesday, June 26, 2024

New York, NY – June 19, 2024– Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new Rochester Hills bookstore on Wednesday, June 26th. The new Barnes & Noble is located at the Hampton Village Shopping Center (2907 S. Rochester Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48307) next to Panera and Target.

The bookstore will officially open to the public at 10AM EDT on Wednesday the 26th, with author Lauren Roberts cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her books, including Barnes & Noble Children’s & YA Book Awards Winner, Powerless. The new location showcases the highly lauded bookstore design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, housing all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller. The bookstore will also house an updated B&N Café.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our presence in Oakland County with the opening of our new bookstore in Rochester Hills,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “We’ve seen such growth in the literary community over the last three decades since we opened our first location in Rochester, adding a second bookstore in The Village of Rochester Hills in 2019. When redevelopment forced the closure of our original bookstore last year, we promised to return. Now we have, directly across the street from where we spent the last 27 years. We are incredibly excited to welcome customers into our brand-new bookstore next week.”

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing exceptionally strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.

The Rochester Hills location is one of five new Barnes & Noble bookstores to open in June, alongside locations in PA, IL and TX. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.

“Being the third member of my family to carry on the tradition of B&N bookselling here in Rochester, I’m so excited to build back the bookstore I was raised in,” said Jana Miller, Store Manager. “Our community has been anxiously awaiting this return, and our team could not be more excited for customers to see what we’ve created for them.”
