Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Lake Orion

Author Old Time Hawkey to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 10AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024

New York, NY – July 10, 2024– Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new Lake Orion bookstore on Wednesday, July 17^th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in Baldwin Commons (4852 South Baldwin Rd, Orion Township, MI 48359) in the space formerly occupied by Nordstrom Rack, directly next to Boot Barn, and near Party City, DSW and Kohl’s.

The bookstore will officially open to the public at 10AM EDT on Wednesday the 17^th, with YouTuber and author Fritz, better known as Old Time Hawkey, cutting the ribbon and signing copies of his new cookbook, Old Time Hawkey's Recipes from the Cedar Swamp. The new location showcases the highly lauded bookstore design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, housing all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller. The bookstore will also house an updated B&N Café.

“We are very glad to be growing the bookselling community here in Lake Orion with our beautiful new bookstore in the Baldwin Commons,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “It is one of three Barnes & Noble bookstores to open on this day, with another 30 set to open before the year’s end.”

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing exceptionally strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores throughout 2024.

The Lake Orion location is one of five new Barnes & Noble bookstores to open in July and one of three opening on the 17th, alongside a new location in Denham Springs, LA and Conroe, TX. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.
