Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Jonesboro
Author Phyllis R. Dixon to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 9AM on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024
Jonesboro, AR – January 31, 2024 – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new Jonesboro bookstore on Wednesday, February 7th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in The Uptown at Crossroads (2300 E Highland Dr. Suite, Jonesboro, AR 72401) in the space formerly occupied by Pier 1, next to Office Max and near Target and Lowe’s.
The bookstore will officially open to the public at 9AM CST on Wednesday the 7th, with author Phyllis R. Dixon cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her books. The new location showcases the highly lauded bookstore design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, housing all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller. The new Barnes & Noble will also feature a B&N Café.
“There is nowhere we have wanted more to return than to Jonesboro,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “Readers in Northeast Arkansas remember fondly our previous bookstore in the Turtle Creek Mall and were dismayed when it was demolished by a tornado in March of 2020. Now, as we open new shops at a pace not achieved in decades, it is with great satisfaction that we return to communities we have long served. We could not be happier to be back in Jonesboro with this stunning and expansive new Barnes & Noble.”
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is enjoying exceptionally strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after over 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.
The Jonesboro bookstore is the first of three new Barnes & Noble stores to open in February, with the bookseller opening locations in Panama City Beach, FL and American Fork, UT in the coming weeks. This follows the opening of five new Barnes & Noble bookstores this January, in Coconut Point, FL; Ledgewood, NJ; Redding, CA; Visalia, CA, and Kalispell, MT.
“Barnes & Noble has consistently been the most requested retailer to return in this area since the devastating tornado in early 2020,” said Store Manager Chris Bolick. “I am so honored to be part of bringing Barnes & Noble back to this wonderful community. We can’t wait to welcome you into your beautiful new Jonesboro Barnes & Noble.”
