Barnes & Noble Returns to Baltimore County with New Timonium Bookstore
Grand Opening Set for the Start of the Holiday Season on Wednesday, November 11th, 2026 at 9:00AM
Timonium, MD – November 5th, 2026
Barnes & Noble is pleased to announce the opening of its new Timonium, MD bookstore on Wednesday, November 11th at 9:00AM. The new Timonium, MD Barnes & Noble is located at the newly renovated Lutherville Station shopping center, (130 W. Ridgely Rd), taking over the former RH Outlet space, next to Old Navy. Coincidentally this brings the storefront full circle, as the same space was once occupied by a Borders bookstore.
Located just north of Baltimore, the Timonium store opening marks Barnes & Noble’s long-awaited return to the area following the closure of its popular Towson location almost a decade ago. The new Barnes & Noble is over 17,500 square feet in size allowing a comprehensive presentation of books, alongside the toys, games, vinyl, DVD’s, magazines, greeting cards, stationery and so much more expected of the bookseller. The store also benefits from a Barnes & Noble Café.
Timonium Barnes & Noble bookstore will open its doors the first week of November with Costume Character Corduroy joining the festivities and hosting special story time events over the weekend for all of the family.
The new Timonium bookstore joins 4 other communities across the country welcoming a new Barnes & Noble this week as the bookseller continues its nationwide expansion. The bookseller will open 60 stores in 2026. Barnes & Noble now boasts over 735 bookstores, having been below 600 stores as recently as 2023.
Everyone who visits the new Timonium Barnes & Noble during the Grand Opening will have access to exclusive deals, like $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies. Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made during the Grand Opening. Customers who are not yet Members are encouraged to sign up and start earning stamps and rewards right away.
“We could not be more pleased to make our return to this wonderful community,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “We have long enjoyed the support of readers in the Towson area and are delighted to have a new home nearby in Timonium. We look forward to welcoming old friends and new customers alike.”
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. The design of the Timonium store showcases the ambition of Barnes & Noble to create exceptional local bookstores that marry the best traditions of independent bookselling with the resources of the historic chain.
Store Manager Sheldon Kulbicki said, “For me, this is about more than opening another Barnes & Noble. I remember what it was like to shop at the Towson store, and I know how much people have missed having a Barnes & Noble here. Getting the opportunity to help bring it back and create new memories for customers is what makes this opening so exciting.”
