Barnes & Noble Restores a Major Bookstore to Elk Grove, CA

Elk Grove, CA – September 8^th, 2026 -Barnes & Noble is pleased to announce the opening of its new Elk Grove, CA bookstore, on Tuesday, September 15^th.

Elk Grove has been without a major bookstore since the closing of Borders Books in 2011. The new Barnes & Noble restores a full-scale bookstore to the city, offering across more than 20,000 square feet a full assortment of books, alongside a café and extensive ranges of toys, games, magazines, gifts and vinyl. The new Elk Grove, CA Barnes & Noble is in the brand-new shopping center, The Village at 8120 Elk Grove Blvd. It is opening next door to the brand-new Whole Foods.

Elk Grove Barnes & Noble bookstore will officially open to the public at 9AM PT on Tuesday the 15th, with local author Tarah DeWitt cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her acclaimed book, Lost and Found. Costume character Biscuit the Dog will also join the festivities and host special storytime events over the weekend.

Barnes & Noble is continuing its rapid growth across the Golden State with the grand opening of its newest bookstore in Elk Grove. The new location is one of eight stores the bookseller is opening in California this year, reflecting a strong resurgence in the brand's brick-and-mortar footprint and a warm reception from local communities. The Elk Grove opening follows successful launches earlier this year in Turlock, Clovis, and Costa Mesa. Barnes & Noble shows no signs of slowing down, with plans already underway to open additional locations in Ontario, Fremont, San Marcos, and Cupertino before the end of the year.

Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between 9/15 and 9/20. Customers who are not yet Members are encouraged to sign up and start earning stamps and rewards right away.
