Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Lakewood
Authors Terry Brooks, Robin Hobb and Shawn Speakman to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening,
10AM on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025
Lakewood, WA – May 23, 2025 – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its new Lakewood, WA bookstore on Wednesday, May 28th. The new Barnes & Noble is a relocation of the Lakewood Mall bookstore, which closed only a few weeks ago, on May 4th. The new space is located in Lakewood Towne Center (10330 59th Ave. Southwest, Lakewood, WA 98499).
The new Barnes & Noble will officially open to the public at 10AM EST on Wednesday the 28th, with acclaimed fantasy authors Terry Brooks, Robin Hobb and Shawn Speakman cutting the ribbon and signing copies of their books, including Brooks’ newest release, Galaphile.
The bookstore showcases the highly lauded design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, featuring all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller. The bookstore will also house an updated B&N Café.
“After nearly 30 years, our well-trod Lakewood Mall bookstore was in dire need of an update,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “Here in Lakewood Towne Center, we are very proud to present a fresh, new Barnes & Noble, which our booksellers have expertly curated. Our Lakewood booksellers are looking forward to greeting their longtime customers and welcoming new ones into this beautiful new Barnes & Noble.”
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 60 new bookstores in 2025.
The Lakewood location is one of three new Barnes & Noble bookstores set to open in May, alongside new stores in Connecticut and Ohio. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.
“I am thrilled to partner with our talented local booksellers to welcome the Lakewood community into a new space that is designed for every book lover,” said Store Manager KJ Anderson, longtime Barnes & Noble Bookseller. “We look forward to helping all our customers find hidden treasures on the way to that long-anticipated new book!”
