KIRKLAND – (May 24, 2021) – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of a new bookstore in The Village at Totem Lake in Kirkland, WA on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. The store is the first to be opened by Barnes & Noble in the Seattle area in 14 years and is one of a number of new stores being opened by the company. The store, located next to Whole Foods, enjoys a prominent position in the rejuvenated shopping center. The newly designed Barnes & Noble, with bespoke oak shelving, is light and bright, and marks a dramatic change in the bookseller’s appearance. An experienced team of booksellers, led by manager Dave Rossiter, will have charge of the store.
The new store will officially open to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony by local New York Times Bestselling author Kobi Yamada at 9:00am on Wednesday, May 26. Kobi Yamada is a children’s author best known for his What Do You Do titles such as What Do You Do with an Idea? and What Do You Do with a Problem?.
“Barnes & Noble is so pleased to be opening new bookstores again. This new store at Kirkland is an especially beautiful one,” says James Daunt, who became the new CEO at Barnes & Noble in September 2019. “Dave Rossiter’s team have embraced the challenge to create within it a distinctive, energetic bookstore that promises to be truly exceptional. We are all excited to have such a special bookstore in Kirkland.”
Now under the direction of long-time bookseller, James Daunt, who opened his own independent bookstore back in 1990, Barnes & Noble encourages and supports each bookselling team to curate their own bookstore. The Kirkland team has been busy over the last few weeks developing their bookstore. It has an especially strong children’s section, with also a large section devoted to Young Adult titles and to manga, as well as the traditional strengths of B&N in new fiction and non-fiction hardcovers. The store also has a comfortable café dominating the large window, with local specialties such as Seattle Chocolates alongside its customary Starbucks offering.
“We are so excited to open our new Barnes & Noble in The Village at Totem Lake in Kirkland. Our new store is warm and inviting, with a very contemporary feeling. It truly encompasses everything I look for in a bookstore” says Store Manager Dave Rossiter. “It is my hope that this store will become a spot where locals can come and be assured that they will find their next great read. I am sure that between the beauty of the new shop, the fantastic selection, and my team's knowledge and experience in the trade, booklovers are going to be thrilled.”
