Barnes & Noble Celebrates Educator Appreciation Week April 10-April 18

Special Discounts and Promotions on Both Classroom and Personal Purchases

Workshops for Local Librarians and Literacy Specialists

New York, NY – March 16, 2010 – Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, will celebrate Spring Educator Appreciation Week April 10-April 18.  During a time when school funding has been seriously impacted by budget cuts, all Barnes & Noble stores and Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com) will offer special discounts and promotions for pre K-grade 12 educators and administrators.  Stores across the country will also host special events and workshops.

Educators who shop at Barnes & Noble during Educator Appreciation Week will receive a 25% discount on personal and classroom purchases, a 10% discount on DVDs and music, a chance to win a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card and other prizes, giveaways, delicious treats and beverages.  Educators must present a valid Barnes & Noble Educators Discount Card to receive the discounts.*

As a part of the Educator Appreciation Week celebration, Barnes & Noble stores will also host special events and workshops.  Events will highlight the many services Barnes & Noble offers designed to save educators time and money.  Services include providing educators with information on the newest titles and authors in Children’s and YA literature; discussions on the hottest literary trends and genres; the ability to search books by Lexile® measure both in stores and online; assistance with curriculum development and suggestions for teaching guides and classroom materials; and bulk discounting.

Workshops will be conducted for local librarians and literacy specialists, many of whom service more than one school in the community.  Workshops will focus on popular topics including “Grant Writing” and “How to Market your Library like a Bookstore.”

Spring Educator Week is also a great opportunity for stores to work with local schools on preparing students for summer reading.  Booksellers will work with educators on their summer reading lists and be sure stores have plenty of inventory of the required reading available for students during the summer months.  Booksellers will also prep educators on the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading program and provide materials to be distributed in the classroom before students leave for the summer break.

*Normal exclusions apply.  See any bookseller for details.
