Barnes & Noble Studio Debuts New Series: Mr. Literary

Short Episodes Are Among the First Scripted Comedies by a Retailer

New York, NY – January 14, 2010 – Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, today announced the debut of Mr. Literary, a new series in the Barnes & Noble Studio (www.bn.com/Studio), an online destination featuring web video series and multimedia content about books, readers and writers.  Written and directed by veteran television, advertising and web writers Charlie Tercek and Chris Gorbos of Serial, an LA-based web video development and production company, the series stars Joseph Will as Mr. Literary, an eccentric but amiable man who only speaks in quotes from books.

The series premiered on Monday, January 11, with its first episode “The Job Interview.”   A new episode will air every consecutive Monday for the next four weeks. Each episode depicts how Mr. Literary fares in delightfully awkward encounters with the various people he meets.  In upcoming episodes, Mr. Literary is pulled over by a policeman in “The Cop,” visits the doctor in “The Check Up,” attends the reading of a will in “The Will,” and lastly, goes on a date in “The Blind Date.” Smart, funny, and filled with beloved literary quotes, Mr. Literary is among the first scripted comedies created by a retailer.

Viewers can tune in to Mr. Literary on Barnes & Noble Studio (www.bn.com/Studio).  The series will be promoted through Barnes & Noble.com’s “This Week” customer e-mails, and Barnes & Noble’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/barnesandnoble) and Twitter pages.
