Barnes & Noble’s 2007 Holiday Book Drive Collected and Donated 1.16 Million Books to Local Non-Profit Organizations, Schools, Libraries and Literacy Partners All Across the Country

NEW YORK, NY -- January 14, 2008 – Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, announced today that it collected and donated 1.16 million books during its 2007 Holiday Book Drive. Barnes & Noble booksellers selected non-profit organizations, schools, libraries, and literacy partners from among their own communities to benefit from the drive.

“Our holiday book drive continues to reach more and more children each year.  What makes our Holiday Book Drive so successful is that it’s locally run,” said Steve Riggio, chief executive officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc.  “Each Barnes & Noble store picks the group or groups that will receive its donations. When we talk about bookselling being important work and a credit to the communities we serve, our Holiday Book Drive puts meaning to those words.”

The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive benefited hundreds of local organizations providing thousands of children with books and the gift of literacy.  Barnes & Noble stores donated books to local chapters of organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, United Way, and the Salvation Army.  Other local recipients included the Child Service Society of Wisconsin, Children’s Restoration Network in Atlanta, Head Start in Missouri, Ronald McDonald House of Pitt County in North Carolina, Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition of St. Louis, North Carolina National Guard Family Assistance program, Global Literacy Project in New Jersey, Metro Health Hospital in Michigan, SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) of Clackamas County in Oregon, and the Redlands Christian Migrant Association Wimauma Academy in Florida.  For a complete listing of recipient organizations, please go to www.barnesandnobleinc.com.

The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive invited customers to purchase books for donations at Barnes & Noble bookstores all across the country between November 1, 2007 and January 1, 2008.
