Barnes & Noble Releases Exclusive SundayMusic® Series Available Only at Barnes & Noble Stores and on Barnes & Noble.com

Discover the World of SundayMusic®: Great Artists, Extraordinary Songs, Quiet Times

NEW YORK, NY, September 11, 2007 – Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, in conjunction with bigHelium Records, announced the launch of its exclusive new CD collection, SundayMusic®.  The first two CDs in the series, SundayMusic®, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, are available exclusively at Barnes & Noble stores and on Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com).  SundayMusic® is a tastemaker series, designed to introduce sophisticated adults to sophisticated music from unique artists that might otherwise go undiscovered.

The SundayMusic® CDs’ selection of great artists and extraordinary songs evoke a day spent reading the paper, lounging at home, or taking a quiet drive. Artist Jacob Golden, featured in SundayMusic Vol. 2, said, “Sundays for me have always been about reflection, and the music I am drawn to is usually the folk music of my childhood. I love to listen to crackly old vinyl and to dig through my dusty record collection to rediscover an old friend or find something new, and let the words and melodies recharge my imagination.”

Throughout the albums, a strong emotional and reflective thread ties together the inspiring array of talent ranging from little-known tracks by some of the biggest names in the business to instant classics by newcomers.  The first two albums of the series include:

  • Guest appearances from world-renowned vocalists such as Grammy award-winning Norah Jones and Coldplay’s Chris Martin;
  • Revered singer-songwriters Rufus Wainwright, Patty Griffin, Badly Drawn Boy and Richard Thompson (“duetting” with son and rising star Teddy Thompson);
  • Enduring classics from the late, great Jeff Buckley, and Grammy-nominated prodigy Imogen Heap;
  • Rousing worldbeat sounds from genre titans like Peter Gabriel to relative unknowns Sidestepper and Sara Tavares;
  • Exclusive mixes or previously unreleased tracks from talents as diverse as award-winning Scottish composer Craig Armstrong and Nashville’s alt-country luminary Mindy Smith;
  • And affecting new music from new troubadours ranging from Sweden’s Loney, Dear to Brooklyn’s Paul Duncan, as well as a spectacular exclusive from LA’s newest vocal star Sara Bareilles, with a cappella group Sonos, plus a beautiful duet between Seattle songbird Rosie Thomas and an uncredited Sufjan Stevens.

Steve Riggio, chief executive officer of Barnes & Noble, said, “Though embracing many genres and styles, the SundayMusic® compilations have one consistent voice, carried by some of the best singers and writers in the world, comprising the perfect soundtrack for a quiet day.”
