New York, New York – November 1, 2007 – Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, announced today that alternative pop singer-songwriter Andy Davis will release his new album, Let The Woman (indie label bigHelium Records), nationwide on November 6 exclusively at Barnes & Noble stores and on Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com).
Recorded with renowned producer Mitchell Froom (Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Crowded House), Let The Woman is a ten-song collection that tells us this 25-year-old troubadour is going to be around for a very long time. Earning comparisons from Paul Simon to Jack Johnson, as well as the story-centered songwriting of Ben Folds and Billy Joel, Andy Davis embraces a range of times, influences and genres with his distinctive melodies and layered vocals.
“I was impressed to find Barnes & Noble and bigHelium taking risks and trying something new – searching for music they believed in and promoting it. A lot of retailers seem to be panicking; others going out of business. In this difficult climate, Barnes & Noble is staying ahead of the curve,” Davis notes.
Steven Scott, director of music marketing for Barnes & Noble, said, “We are very excited that our customers will be the first to hear the new album by the incredibly talented Andy Davis. We’re proud to be involved in launching his career. Let the Woman will be a featured selection in the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Music program in over 500 music departments and online at Barnes & Noble.com.”
The sound of Let The Woman is organic, contemporary yet classic; while the songs are truly distinctive – old school with a modern twist and universal appeal.
The title track, Let the Woman, is a thoroughly infectious number allowed to flex its muscles with elements of funky blues and even gospel, but is all the stronger for remaining true to the singer-songwriter genre. “The music breathes a lot more, and you end up with a very real sounding recording,” Davis says. “The way music should be made, I think,” he adds.
Let The Woman will be available digitally on February 5, 2008, and through all retailers soon thereafter.
