Jaime Carey was named Chief Operating Officer on July 2, 2015. In his role he is responsible for merchandising, marketing, e-Commerce, NOOK and proprietary publishing.
In May 2008, he was named Chief Merchandising Officer and continues to be responsible for the merchandise buying of all departments, including book, toys & games, music, DVD, magazine and gift.
Mr. Carey joined Barnes & Noble in 2003 as Director of Newsstand, and was promoted to Vice President of Newsstand. During this time, he completely overhauled the system for ordering and replenishing magazines and newspapers, developing what is widely regarded as the most efficient supply chain in the industry. Under his leadership, Barnes & Noble dramatically increased magazine sales, consolidating its position as one of the top magazine retailers in the United States.
Prior to joining Barnes & Noble, Mr. Carey worked for Curtis Circulation Company, one of the largest magazine distributors in North America, where he was Vice President, Client Services. He is a 1982 graduate of Fordham University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English Literature.
Mr. Carey has also been a member on the board of the National Book Foundation since December 2008.
