Jaime Carey was appointed President of Development & Restaurant Group in June 2016. In this role, Mr. Carey is responsible for overseeing real estate development and the newly created Restaurant Group.
Previously, Mr. Carey was Chief Operating Officer, responsible for merchandising, marketing, e-Commerce, NOOK and proprietary publishing. From May 2008 to July 2015, he was Chief Merchandising Officer, overseeing merchandising and product development. He was instrumental in the company’s successful expansion into non-book categories, including Toys & Games, Gift and Vinyl. All of these departments experienced double-digit comp growth during his tenure.
Mr. Carey joined Barnes & Noble in 2003 as Director of Newsstand, and was promoted to Vice President of Newsstand. During this time, he completely overhauled the system for ordering and replenishing magazines and newspapers, developing what is widely regarded as the most efficient supply chain in the industry. Under his leadership, Barnes & Noble dramatically increased magazine sales, consolidating its position as one of the top magazine retailers in the United States.
Prior to joining Barnes & Noble, Mr. Carey worked for Curtis Circulation Company, one of the largest magazine distributors in North America, where he was Vice President, Client Services. He is a 1982 graduate of Fordham University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English Literature.
Mr. Carey has also been a member on the board of the National Book Foundation since December 2008.
